Russia warns against emergent international threats

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cameroon, His Excellency Nikolai L. Ratsiborinskiy, has warned of the transitional period the world is going through, saying that it is marked by several atrocities and the emergence of new destructive forces.

He was speaking at the Yaounde Mont Febé Hotel on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at a reception to mark the 21st edition of his country’s National Day, which was attended by the Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh.

Ambassador Ratsiborinskiy said the world has since moved from the bi-polar, Cold War and uni-polar eras to today’s worrying situation that calls for urgent unity by all nations in order to stabilise the polity and ensure security for all.

Among the trouble hotspots in the world today, he cited the “dangerous conflicts” in Syria and Ukraine.

His Excellency Ratsiborinskiy however expressed satisfaction at the fact that Russian President, Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart, Petro Poreshenko, are trying to find a way out of the crisis in eastern Ukraine.

He noted that Cameroon is also confronting new security challenges from the conflicts in neighbouring Nigeria and the Central African Republic, CAR.

He pledged Russia’s readiness to be Cameroon’s partner and friend to support her through the struggle.

The Envoy said last year’s visit to Russia by the Minister of External Relations, Prof. Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo and the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o, helped in facilitating dialogue between the two countries. Similarly, he said, this month’s visit to Cameroon by the Russian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Relations with Africa and Representative of President Vladimir Putin to the Middle East, Mikhail Bogdanov, was a plus to bilateral relations.

Ambassador Ratsiborinskiy commended Prof. Moukoko for the big reception given Mikhail Bogdanov’s delegation, saying that the visit showed that both countries share much in common, with the prospects of setting up a joint mixed commission soon.

Concluding, he offered a toast for a free and prosperous Russia, a stable and emergent Cameroon, and for the health of Presidents Paul Biya of Cameroon and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

The Russian Federation on June 12 each year celebrates the anniversary of the election in 1991 of its first President, Boris Yeltsin, and the adoption of a new constitution.
