Road Infrastructure: Cameroon roads in deterioration state

Roads Roads

The Cameroonian roads are in poor conditions and it is a worrying situation, according to the daily Le Jour newspaper yesterday.

The newspaper stated the Maroua-Kousseri interchange in the Far North Region as an example "since the return of the rainy season. It is almost impossible to rally between the two cities by car. The road is 265 Km and goes fast at 12am."

A resident of Maroua named Joel, who spoke to the newspaper argued that "the section between Mora and Maroua is 60 kilometers. In the past we went through it in 45 minutes. Now you will need a 4x4 vehicle which speeds at most, 40 km / h."

According to the newspaper, "a ray of hope came in 2013 with the arrival of a Chinese company which was to rehabilitate the interchange. Unfortunately, in May 2014, Boko Haram terrorists abducted about ten of the workers. The company stopped its work."

In the North, the Ngaoundere-Garoua has its road, 60% deteriorated. "It takes eight hours to get to the capital of the northern region, using the national No. 1, on a road full of large potholes."

Also among the hazardous highways was the Douala-Yaoundé route as stated by Le Jour. With a narrow path and 40% of its destruction caused by truck drivers who ply the road to Central Africa, the national No. 3 is considered one of the most dangerous in the world.

And then there's the Douala-Bafoussam axis, presented as the busiest road of the "triangle of death". The newspaper revealed that it is also the slowest route because of the poor condition of the road and the proliferation of speed bumps.
