Razel robbers caught in Douala one year after

Three of the five robbers who stole from Société Razel Cameroun on June 26, 2014 have been caught by the anti-crime judicial police team of Littoral who immediately informed the press yesterday.

The thieves run out of luck when investigations by the Regional Directorate of the judicial police of the Coast led to their arrest a year after the incidence. They robbed the company located at Bonapriso neighborhood in Douala, Littoral region of FCFA 107million.

The three robbers caught were Mehoada Asis alias Lama, 37, a former goalkeeper turned football coach; Souleymane Sali alias Souley, 35; and Baba Abubakar, 25. The last two are traders. According to them they were five when the robbery took place in Razel a year ago. The other two are still on the run.

The first robber was arrested in New Bell neighbourhood while the other two were caught around the Bonapriso neighbourhood. According to security sources, at the time of their arrest, all three were in possession of weapons including a conventional pistol with eight rounds of ammunition, 9 adhesive tapes and two firearms.

During the reestablishment of the facts on Friday, the criminals stated that the money was placed in two stacks and the operation had lasted for three minutes. The unexpected ‘visitors’ hurriedly took off on motorcycles parked outside the building.

For a successful operation of June 26, 2014, they said they were assisted by an unidentified agent from the company who provided them with the uniforms.

The incident took place a year ago when the five stormed into the société Razel office in Douala. With weapons and dressed in the company’s uniform, they broke into the office of the accountant who had returned from the bank with a large sum of money estimated at FCFA 107 million. The money was purposely for the monthly payroll of the workers at company.

After the meeting with the press and the reconstruction of the facts, they were immediately referred to the military court and charged with armed robbery.
