Rail transport curbs traffic situation in CMR

Rail transport recorded an improvement in traffic since the services of rail transport came in circulation in May with new trains by the Cameroon railways (CAMARAIL).

Since the launch of the Intercity Train, on May 3, 2014, by Prime Minister Philemon Yang and Dominique Lafont Chairman of Bolloré Africa Logistics (BAL), 444 trains were provided with nearly 1,400 passengers transported on average every day, with an average time of 3 h 30 min journey between the cities of Douala and Yaounde.

Within the space of four months, more than 100 000 passengers have been transported. The president of the Board of Directors of CAMRAIL Hamadou Sali, stated that "putting in service the Intercity train, CAMRAIL fits right into the commitment made by Vincent Bolloré, president of the Bollore group to the President of the Republic Paul Biya." This commitment materialized with the support of the State in the acquisition of 40 new passenger cars.

He added that with "100,000 passengers on Intercity, CAMRAIL will continue alongside the Government in implementing and modernizing the Cameroonian railway system and improving the quality of the supply of transport.

CAMRAIL Chief, Quentin Gérard, took the opportunity to extend "gratitude to travellers who have trusted the system despite some operational difficulties" before announcing that with the help of a telephone operator from the square, a wifi station service will be installed in Douala and Yaoundé.

With 15 years of presence in Cameroon, CAMRAIL engaged with the State of Cameroon in an extensive programme of investment of 230 billion CFA francs with158 billion francs CFA FRANCS financed by CAMRAIL
