Quality of service at "Red lights” on the decline

A figure recently made public by the departmental delegate of tourism and recreation for the Mfoundi revealed the conditions of popular hotel and motels in the country. In Yaounde, according to Manuel Papin Youmégné, there are about four tourist establishments that operate a number of these motels collectively termed as "red lights”.

The quality of service, facilities and even the stories from that place are unbelievable. For instance, Martinien G. who came to Cameroon for a three day seminar at Yaoundé met an unfortunate situation upon requesting a less expensive hotel. Each night of his stay turned into a nightmare, as he suffered incessant mosquito bites, unpleasant sounds from lovemaking from neighbours rooms and loud music from hotel's bar.

The fact that many people continue to frequent these places does not mean every guest are content with such poor services. However, specialists in the field seek to make a whole lot of excuses for it. Some people specifically request for short stays, at very affordable rates. The abundance of motels in the cities are fairly in demand. At the same time, quality service and facilities should not be expected, since the prices are cheap.
