Presidency shows interest in the crash of a Chinese helicopter

According to the Minister of defence, a commission of inquiry has been established "on instructions" to determine the circumstances of the crash which occurred 23 April in Douala.

The crash of a Chinese helicopter in Douala April 23 is of concern to the head of State, according to a release issued Thursday by the Minister delegate at the Presidency in charge of defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o.

"On High instructions from the president of the Republic, the head of State and head of the armed forces, a Commission of inquiry was immediately set up in accordance with the regulations in force. It will establish the circumstances of the accident, and will decide the technical condition of the aircraft", informed the Minister of defence.

The helicopter crash occurred on a Z9 WE of the Cameroonian army aircraft Thursday, April 23, 2015 at around 4pm on the runway of the military airport of Douala, in the Littoral.

According to the earlier explanation that the Minister of communications gave last week, the aircraft was flying at nearly six metres above the ground level as part of preparatory training at the military parade on the national unity day, which will be held May 20, 2015 in Yaoundé.

It was flown by a senior officer and a sub-lieutenant of the Cameroonian air army. The apparatus was damaged but the crew was able to escape unscathed.
