Preservation of the environment highlighted

Waste Waste

The international community will celebrate the 43rd World Environment Day (WED) on Friday June 5, 2015 and as a tradition in Cameroon, events in relation to WED have already begun.

The call for a moderate consumption of natural resources started yesterday at the premises of the Ministerial Building No. 2 that houses Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Protection de la nature et du Développement durable (Minepded).

It is about time as stated by the Minepded, “to draw the attention of the nations and people of the world about the threats the planet faces due to the irrational use of natural resources”.

The week of activities will therefore be to reflect and take solid actions that will urge individuals at the local, regional and national levels to promote sustainable use of natural resources.

The 43rd WED has been themed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as "Seven billion dreams. One Planet. Consume in moderation”.

It was documented that 30% of food produced is disposed. This means that it is time to stop wastage and consume in moderation to allow natural resources to regenerate. It is also to preserve the legacy of the future and safeguard the survival of humanity.
