Pre-school education new programme validated

The think-tanks of pre-school education in Cameroon have agreed on a new orientation after a two-day seminar.

The seminar to launch a new curriculum which began on 23rd April 2015 was presided over by the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Adjidja Alim.

Minister Youssouf Adjidja Alim, addressing participants indicated that pre-school education is fundamental as it is a solid foundation for children’s character.

The Minister argued that this holds true because pre-school compliments home education before formal education begins.

According to available statistics, only 30 per cent of pupils in Cameroon attend pre-schools, former referred to as nursery schools.

Pedagogic experts associate this low numbers to the lack of adequate facilities.

The issue was discussed and the Minister promised more government subvention to pre-school managers.

The problems notwithstanding, participants at the seminar agreed on a new curriculum for nursery school education, now referred to as ‘pre-school education’.
