Migration of television broadcasting from analogue to digital, creation of the WACS cable, installation project and deployment of optical fiber are the key issues discussed by state managers at the Conference of Post and Telecommunications of Central Africa (COPTAC).

Meetting on Wednesday in Yaounde during their special session, experts of COPTAC evaluated the level of implementation of recommendations of the previous session.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Armand Ndjodom, Secretary General of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL). Also on the table of dignitaries are the CEOs of Camtel, the Campost and Art.

At the 3rd Extraordinary Session of the COPTAC organized in Cameroon in April 2014, recommendations were made regarding the migration of television broadcasting from analogue to digital, the development of electronic money transfers through the postal network and operating policies of landing points of submarine cables with optical fibers.

Resolutions were then taken towards improving the quality of service and security of the mail and the promotion of financial inclusion through postal networks of COPTAC, among others.

The foundations of international concern were involved and marked by the holding in 2016 in Cameroon, the plenary proceedings, which will help to evaluate midterm application of this set of recommendations and resolutions.

Emphasis will also be placed, according to Armand Ndjodom on the difficulties encountered and suggestions to be submitted at the next meeting.

While welcoming the renewed interest for Posts and Telecommunications in Central Africa, the Secretary General of MINPOSTEL urged participants to make a cold evaluation to ensure a definitive takeoff in these sectors.

The COPTAC was born in 1988. It was for member states to establish a specialized interstate, serving consultation platform to define a common strategy for post and telecommunications. The session ends on Thursday.
