Plan Cameroon strengthens partners against human trafficking

Human trafficking remains a major threat to humanity. In a bid to wipe out this cankerworm, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with partners of the different countries concerned, conceived the Anti Human Trafficking Project in five countries in the gulf of Guinea notably: Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria and Cameroon as a way of contributing to the reduction of human trafficking in these countries.

It is in this light that a two-day workshop on the strengthening of capacities of civil society organisations in charge of victims of human trafficking ended in Yaounde on Friday June 17, 2016.

Organised by Plan International Cameroon, the workshop brought together 20 civil society organisations and shelter homes for human trafficking victims which are beneficiaries of the project.

Melainie Nyamdi, Regional Coordinator of the project called Anti Human Trafficking Project said the workshop was aimed at putting together lessons learnt and best practices as far as the implementation of Complement 1.2 of the project is concerned.

The objective of the workshop was to validate the final review document which will be shared to other partners and also those partners that are not beneficiaries of the project.

The Gulf of Guinea project was launched in Cameroon on August 13, 2014 by Plan International Cameroon in collaboration with partner ministries and civil society organisations.

Activities implemented till June 2016 include training on divers topics on the fight against human trafficking, refresher courses and monitoring of donations from different organisations to improve the quality of care for victims, among others.

The project has 24 organisations notably two shelter homes, four coalitions and 18 civil society organisations.
