The Africa Director of the firm, Ghislain De La Sayette, was received by Philemon Yang.

The visiting Africa Director of the France-based Airbus Defence and Space has proposed business prospects in the area of space and satellite technology in Cameroon.

Ghislain De La Sayette held discussions with the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang recently at the Star Building on the instructions of the President of the Republic.

Speaking to reporters after the audience with the Prime Minister, Mr Sayette said, his company which is part of the Airbus Group, can do a lot in Cameroon using space science and technology for development. The Africa Director of Airbus Defence and Space who led the delegation, pointed out that his firm can use telecommunication satellite on various kinds of applications including land administration, security and defence, agriculture, fishing, maritime surveillance, environment amongst others.

According to Mr. Sayette, many African countries are today using space science and technology for development. “We conveyed the idea to His Excellency the Prime Minister that Cameroon should also embark on the space adventure”, he said, while hoping that space activities will be initiated in the country soon.

Cameroon, he added, is not new to his company given that in 2012, the Division of Geo-information signed an accord with the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development to monitor the Congo basin forest using spot satellite images.

Ghislain de la Sayette and his delegation are therefore in Cameroon to prospect for more business opportunities in the country with the intention of using Space technology for development.
