President Paul Biya has stated that he will 'see' what he can do within his means on the Lydienne Eyoum's embezzlement case provided she is ready to cooperate.

He made the statement during a press conference at the Unity Palace with François Hollande in Yaoundé after a warm welcome.

As expected, the French head of state, François Hollande arrived in Cameroon for a state visit on Friday evening July 3, 2015.

The case of Lydienne Eyoum, the Franco -Cameroonian lawyer who was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the embezzlement of public money, was one of the questions raised; although the accused has always denied the charges.

Paul Biya, who was for the first time questioned publicly about the case, stressed that the convicted actually embezzled public funds no matter how she continues to deny it.

"I want to be brief with this. The lawyer in question had been instructed to recover a sum of two billion CFA francs from a bank to deposit into the treasury. Instead of depositing two billion, only a billion was recorded. Justice has run its course. The Supreme Court has made a decision," says Paul Biya who added that something can be done in favour of Lydienne Eyoum if she makes an appeal.

"I'll see what I can do, if this is the wish of the applicant and if the constitution allows me to do something about the case. It would be done at the appropriate time," concluded the president while stating that justice in the country is totally independent.

Also speaking on this subject, François Hollande said Lydienne Eyoum’s situation was one of the topics he had wanted to discuss with Paul Biya.
