The Cameroonian People Democratic Movement (CPDM) proceeded on Saturday to renew its governing structures, according to a document from its founder and the national president, Paul Biya.

Planned for December 10, this renewal of the party organs concerns all the structures with about 500 bodies based both inside and outside the country.

The change is specifically to elect officials of the party and chambers of the section with the assistance of a basic and sub-section Committee. Commissions will be on the ground in the next few days to carry out the supervision of elections.

According to the document, all militants can apply for a position provided they fulfill the residence rules, activism, commitment and seniority. For candidates vying for the position of president of sections for example, they must have been a member of a unit which includes the president, vice-president, Secretary or Treasurer, with the exception of the members of the Central Committee, members of national parliamentary or the Mayor.

This renewal was supposed to be made in 2012, given that the last operation of this kind was held in 2007.

Created on March 24, 1985 by the current head of state, Paul Biya, the former lone CPDM party dominates the political life in Cameroon, with an overwhelming majority of 80 per cent of representatives in the Senate, National Assembly and local councils.
