PM receives in audience Cameroon’s CYC candidate

The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang has granted audience to Cameroonian Candidate, Achaleke Christian Leke against the upcoming Commonwealth Youth Council, CYC, Elections in Malta.

The audience was part of a preparatory meeting for Cameroon’s participation at the imminent Commonwealth Head of Governments Meeting (CHOGM) this November 2015 in Malta.

The close to one discussions with the Prime Minister, his cabinet Ministers and the Commonwealth Department at the Ministry of External Relations was an opportunity for this young Cameroonian to officially present his candidacy for the position of a representative for Africa and Europe Regional Commonwealth Youth Council elections scheduled for 24th November 2015, in Malta.

Achaleke Christian Leke who is the Cameroon Youth Ambassador to the Commonwealth used the platform to present his motivation and campaign strategy influenced by his experience in youth civil society actions and consultations with young people in Cameroon and beyond.

During the high profile meeting, the CYC aspirant also presented his plan of action and level of preparedness for the upcoming elections, a plan that was highly appreciated by the Head of Government.

The mastery of his strategies and vision for young people in Cameroon, Africa, Europe and the Commonwealth countries must have been convincing enough for the Prime Minister to pledge Cameroon’s support to his course.

Later on, Cameroon’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Monouna Fotso who accompanied this Cameroon’s candidate to the Prime Minister’s Office also held discussions with the hopeful in his cabinet where he also pledged his ministry’s support to the candidate.

The Minister and the Director of Cooperation at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education took time out with Mr Achaleke to also map out strategies that will help the Cameroon emerge victorious at the upcoming CYC elections in Malta.

Worth noting is the fact that, Achaleke Christian Leke has been working with Cameroonian youths for eight years in the domains of youth empowerment, inclusion and participation of young people in policy and development. He also is the National Coordinator of Local Youth Corner, Cameroon, a youth-led civil society organisation in the country.

He is currently championing youth efforts and the fight against violent extremism and promotion of peace.His office has been training and sensitising youths in Cameroon and abroad through a manual on youth, peace and security specifically with the use of a video documentary developed by his organisation.

He has equally represented the voices of young Cameroonian in several international events including; the 2015 United Nations General Assembly side events, where he made a presentation at the Global Summit against Violent Extremism in New York City.
