PADFA meet to discuss ways to modernise rice and onion production

The Committee in charge of the development of these sectors met Tuesday in Yaounde.

The fourth session of the Steering Committee of the Programme of support for the development of the agricultural sector (PADFA) was held Tuesday in Yaounde.

This assessment meeting of the activities of the programme at the Ministry of Agriculture and rural development (Minader) was interested in rice and onion, to resume production and modernize farming practices.

The Chairman of the Committee, Andrée Caroline Mebande Bate, summarized six issues of their Assembly to the members of this forum. Minader, indeed, should first of all, in order to achieve the objectives of the project, measure the contribution of the actions made by the PADFA since the adoption of the 2014budget.

At the same time, it will be the opportunity to check the effectiveness of taking account of the guidelines of the Department specifically as regards the Organization of producers. It is necessary, said Ms. Mebande, that it leads to the establishment of sustainable cooperatives that bring together a real capacity to produce and thus enrich the producers.

The other elements of the specification of the meeting held in collaboration with the world of research to develop the production of seeds. The availability of water was also at the centre of concerns.

For the future, finally, the Committee will have to focus on reflection underway which will extend the PADFA and thus open pathways for the development of new fields after rice and onion.
