P&T Women join Women's Day bandwagon

As part of activities to mark the Day in Cameroon, the Women’s Association of the ministry called “La Tutelle” organised an open door at the esplanade of the ministry in Yaounde on March 5, 2015.

The event took place in the presence of the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa.

The Inspector of Services Number III in the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Catherine Bikay told Cameroon Tribune that the objective of the open door is for the public to discover the different services and products offered by the sector and to show the involvement of women in the telecommunication sector.

The women of the post and telecommunication sector, she explained were initially in charge of the commercialisation of products and services such as selling of stamps, receiving clients and today they are found in all the fields of work such as network engineers, telecommunications engineers and the exploitation sectors.

She said the open door is a call for young girls to demystify science subjects as being extremely difficult and be interested in the domain of posts and telecommunications and ICTs which is a provider of many jobs.

Unlike in the previous years, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications invited structures under the ministry to participate in the open door so that these companies can see what women are capable of doing in their sectors in order to create synergy with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications for the development of ICTs and to reduce the digital gap in Cameroon.
