Over 220, 000 candidates sit in for Common Entrance Examination

They wrote Wednesday in the various centres of Yaoundé to obtain their an entry into secondary schools.

Little Jonathan B. hardly woke early so as to reassure himself that he has not forgotten anything, under the watchful eye of his anxious mother. "I am concerned because I want him to pass this exam”.

I gave him advice for him to remain calm. I helped him to prepare his kit of ballpoint pens and his academic box including his school ID card and his receipt of review', noted his mother. Just like this 10-year-old boy, 219,000 candidates for the entrance examination and first year of technical education stormed Wednesday the different centres of Yaoundé and nationwide exams.

At College Jean Tabi, it was difficult to clear a path. Only the candidates had access to the facility. Here, 610 students sat for this examination.

"Everything went on fine. We had no incident. There were only two students who did not have their names on the lists. They cried so much that we had mercy and we allowed them to write even if they had to regularize their situation later», explained the principal Anasthasie Bekono. In 17 examination rooms, the atmosphere was studious.

At Lycée bilingue d’application, it was the same atmosphere with 253 candidates. "We have received no late comers, but we recorded three unregistered candidates. Nevertheless we received instructions from the hierarchy that allowed them to write.

Their registration forms were typed and parents will register them so far (Wednesday), said Irène Ena Mballa, head of secretariat for this competition. If some schools officials were indulgent leaving non-registered pupils to write, others did not.

This is the case of lycée bilingue d’Ekounou where the non-registrants did not take part in the tests, a difficult situation for parents who had their eyes to weep. In this regard, the headmaster refused to answer the questions of the CT reporter.

In the examination, students wrote, dictation, mathematics, English, general culture and fast calculation. "It was affordable and I hope to succeed. We were asked questions about what we have seen in class', one of them noted.

In the meantime, teachers are already preparing to mark in order to deliver results in a few days. Meanwhile, parents and students wait with anxiety.
