Operation Sparrowhawk: Amadou Vamoulke goes to SCC unguarded

Amadou Vamoulké Amadou Vamoulké

Amadou Vamoulke, Director-General of CRTV, was heard for the umpteenth time by the judge Annie Noëlle Bahounoui Batende at the Special Criminal Court (SCC)on 3 August 2015 .

Credible sources indicated that the patron of the national television station arrived in his vehicle, wearing a blue bog at about 9 o'clock in the morning. He appeared from his hearing around 9:45am. Many observers feared that the sword of Justice would come down upon him, depriving him of liberty.

The lawyer of Vamoulke, Me Ngongo Ottou, contacted on the phone by ‘Le Quotidien de l’Economie’ did not respond to the calls. Same silence prevailed from the exchanges between DG of CRTV and the lawyer who is known for putting in detention Louis Bapes Bapes, Minister of Secondary Education, entangled in cases of alleged financial malpractices on April 2014,.

It is hard to conclude if Amadou Vamoulke will be summoned before Bahounoui Batende in the coming weeks, as was the case on July 20. That day, he responded to a convocation from the SCC whch had already heard him late 2014.

Therefore, the August 2 hearing was the second of its kind in the space of less than a month. The consistent appearance of Amadou Vamoulke at the SCC began in late 2014. He was then a witness of the public prosecutor case against Gervais Mendo Ze, former general manager of CRTV from 1988 to 2005. The latter was eventually placed under warrant of committal for supposed acts of distractions of public funds on November 12, 2014.

According to reliable judicial sources, Amadou Vamoulke is accused of an unclear financial management of a $ 2.8 billion XOF since his arrival at the CRTV.

But for him, the disputed sum represents the gap between the amount contained in the accountant’s documents that he signed, during the execution of service, and what he actually found in the coffers of the structure while Pr Gervais Mendo Ze was leaving the Tower in Mballa II, in Yaoundé.
