Only 16 travel agencies in Cameroon comply with regulations - Nkili

The figures were revealed by Robert Nkili, Minister of Transport on Tuesday preceded with a presentation of the results of the audit of travel agencies in 2012.

Of the 200 travel agencies identified in 2012 by the Ministry of Transport, only 16 of them work within the law. To believe the Ministry of Transport, the other 184 illegal agencies do not have licenses, much less rest rooms. They present unsanitary, dilapidated fleet, water points and toilets nonexistent.

But all is not as negative in this sector which, according to the Minister, contributed to the significant decrease of about 40% of accidents on our roads between 2011 and 2013.

"There has been fewer accidents on our roads, I have to congratulate and say that this is essentially the same time, I said we were trying to improve our work environment, manage drivers, to ensure that drivers are all registered with the CNPS," said the Minister who proceeded to give the results of the audit with travel agencies in 2012.

"Responsible travel agencies hope that the order be delivered in the area plagued by insecurity and unfair competition. The Minister coming down once a year is not enough," said the CRTV National Station's Calvin Oyono, manager of a travel agency. The minister announces crackdown through permanent controls.
