Cameroon has taken the helm of production of 100,000 barrels a day according to the National Company of Hydrocarbons of Cameroon in a statement on the state radio CRTV on Tuesday.

Gross domestic production has for the first time exceeded its 100, 000 barrels a day since 2002, the statement disclosed.

On April 30 the NHC said the production amounted to 10.33 million barrels, an increase of 17.34% while indicating this production was from January to April.

Cameroon's oil production was 181,000 barrels per day in 1985. It however decreased to reach 60,400 barrels per day in 2011 due to the depletion of reserves. With the discovery of new wells, the activity has been revived.

In May 2013, the Revenue Watch Institute (RWI), an American NGO which campaigns for the transparent management of natural resources, had estimated that Cameroon had failed in good governance in the oil sector.

The NGOs described as opaque the process of granting licenses. There are few controls over the national oil company that is 100% public and essential collection of the oil resources is done by the state, she stressed.
