Official: Russia to sell weapons to Cameroon

Russia is set to strengthen its military-technical cooperation with other countries by increasing its exports of weapons in 2015, announced a defence official on Friday March 27, 2015.

"Future Russian contracts on defence equipment exports amounted to 48 billion dollars, while the country has exported weapons estimated at more than 15.5 billion in 2014," said Alexander Fomin, head of the Agency for military-technical cooperation of the Ministry of defence, at a meeting in the Council of the federation, the upper House of Parliament.

Russia has signed 90 agreements on arms exports, the production of the aviation industry dominating the structure of exports, he continued. "The (military) aircraft deliveries amounted to 44% (of exports)", he added.

The country has signed agreements of military-technical cooperation with the Kyrgyzstan, the Uzbekistan and Cameroon this year.

The Ambassador of Russia to Cameroon, H.E. Nikolay Ratsiborinski, had already announced in mid-January to president Paul Biya, that his country is willing to support him in the fight against Boko Haram with arms and "latest generation" equipment.
