Nigerians call for a 'rapid' reopening of border with Cmr

Nigerian nationals have expressed the wish to see the border between Cameroon and Nigeria quickly open to traffic, following the decision of the Cameroonian authorities to close all borders with the neighbouring countries in order to guard against the Ebola virus.

"We understand the decision of the Government of Cameroon, but we want things to go quickly to resume trade between the two countries as soon as possible", reported Nigerian traders.

These traders who are "stuck in Cameroon" because of the decision to close the borders found themselves on the spot, wishing for the "the opening of a humanitarian corridor" under supervision to allow the populations of the two countries to move without exposing themselves to the risk of contamination to the ebola fever.

Because of Ebola fever plaguing West Africa and Nigeria, Cameroon specifically took restrictive measures, including the closure of air, maritime and land borders with Nigeria.

Moreover, flights of the airlines from countries exposed to the epidemic of Ebola fever have been suspended until further notice.
