Nigeria to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Cameroon

The Nigerian military is seeking to strengthen its defence ties with both Cameroon and Niger Republic in its ongoing effort to flush out Boko Haram terrorists and secure its contiguous borders with countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC)according to This Day.

In an effort to strengthen the existing bi-lateral cooperation with Nigeria's neighbours, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, embarked on official trips this week to Niger Republic and Republic of Cameroon where he met with the top Government functionaries of the two countries.

His latest efforts were contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Defence Information (DDI), Brig-Gen. Rabe Abubakar.

In Niger Republic, he was said to have met with the President of the country, Mahamadou Issoufou as well as the Chief of Defence Staff,General Seyni Garba where discussion on issues that concern the two friendly countries were highlighted.

He also used the opportunity to commend the Niger President for the role the country is playing in counter-terrorism operations in Lake Chad Basin and the country's role in the formation of Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
