Nigeria evacuates displaced persons from Cameroon

The Borno State government has evacuated more than 2,000 displaced persons who fled Gamboru area of the state to Fotokol in Cameroon Republic.

Receiving the displaced persons in Maiduguri yesterday, Caretaker Chairman of Ngala Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulkarim, said: "So far, a total of 2,500 Nigerian refugees who were trapped in Gamboru town and later made their way to Fotokol in Cameroon, have been evacuated."

Upon arrival, the evacuees who comprise mainly of youths, women and children were screened by members of the Borno Civilian JTF, before they were allowed into camps in the state.

Shortly after the screening, officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development led by Alhaji Grema Terab and Hajiya Ladi Bappa, attended to the evacuees, who travelled for 13 days before arriving at Maiduguri.
