New heads of defense forces take charge

Officials at the 3rd and 4th Military Region were installed recently by the Mindef.

The officials who were appointed by the president of the Republic on Thursday, 14 August at the head of segments of the national defence forces were installed recently according to Cameroon tribune in the Communication division of the Ministry of defence.

Ceremonies were planned successively in Garoua, seat of the command post of the third joint military Region (Ramos) and Maroua which hosts the fourth RMIA created last week.

Colonels Frédéric Ndjonkep Meyomhy and Assoualai Blama, Commander of the third military region and the 31st motorized infantry brigade respectively will have to take their troops to the capital of the North. Installation of wire will then stretch in Maroua, where colonel Jacob Kodji is now the head of the fourth RMIA.

On the same army region, in the fourth region of gendarmerie which covers the far North, the colonel Souleymanou Massakano will take control over this division of the army.

At the Ministry of defence where preparations took place for this redeployment, it was observed that it is "a response from the head of the armed forces [president Biya] to a popular expression. "The inhabitants of the affected areas will understand that their application for protection has been understood.

"We are still at war and can legitimately expect local residents that they welcome the soldiers as brothers and collaborate with them in tracking down perpetrators of disorder and violence", says our source.

In general, the arrival of the new troops will bring a revival of social and economic activities to the far north with the subsequent installation of police, military to all the regions subdivisions. "The strengthening of positions which stems from the creation of new units and therefore placement of troops indicates that the region will be better network and ordered," concluded our analyst.
