New electricity transmission lines underway

The Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Basil Atangana Kouna has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a Chinese firm towards the construction of two power transmission lines in the country.

Minister Basil Atangana Kouna signed the agreement with the Chinese company, TBAE Co. Ltd this Monday 1st December 2014.

The project includes 225km and 90kV power transmission lines between Ebolowa and Kribi, and Mbalmayo and Mekin respectively.

The Assistant General Manager of TBAE Co. Ltd disclosed that feasibility studies will be carried out prior to construction works.

The Energy Minister promised government’s support towards the completion of the project and reiterated the need of refined energy infrastructures to meet the increasing demands of the public.

The project is scheduled to last for 18 months and will be carried out under the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Financing framework.

According to this framework, the Chinese government will finance the project meanwhile the Cameroon government will assist in financial incentives.
