The new German Ambassador to Cameroon, Holger Mahnicke, was warmly welcomed by the President of the National Assembly (PAN) on Friday.

There was a lively exchange between the President of the National Assembly of Cameroon and the new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). The "Guten Morgen" of the PAN was certainly pleasing to his visitors who had set foot, for the first time, in his office.

"I came to introduce myself. I took the opportunity to take stock of the Foreign Policy magazine that my country re-launched in 2014 and reiterated that Cameroon remains an important partner to Germany in Central Africa,” said the diplomat.

Good prospects are in sight to intensify the historical relations that bind the two countries. For example, between the National Assembly of Cameroon and the Bundestag, inter-parliamentary meetings are envisaged to strengthen exchanges between the two institutions, the diplomat added.

In the area of development cooperation, he noted that the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) is very active in Cameroon. However, the economic sector remains the weakest link of cooperation, regretted Holger Mahnicke.

But “projects are underway to revitalize this part,” he reassured. Holger Mahnicke was appointed ambassador of the FRG in Cameroon on 28 July.
