National Human Rights Commission condemn Boko Haram attacks

The National Commission for the rights of man and freedom has expressed concerns about the consequences of repeated incursions by the sect, Boko Haram in the Extreme - North of Cameroon, according to a statement released by its president, Dr. Chemuta Divine Banda.

The commission cites killings, abduction of people and destruction of property perpetrated on Cameroonian territory to have been done by this sect. Taking for example the Kolofata attack, July 27, in the Department of Mayo-Sava an attack which resulted in the abduction of a dozen people leaving close to twenty dead.

"These terrorist actions carried out by individuals and heavily armed men in large numbers sow anxiety, confusion and terror within populations; things that seriously undermine entry and exit freedom, as well as the freedom to engage in economic activities», wrote the Commission.

The actions of Boko Haram in the far North are qualified by the commission as: "a dramatic situation, likely to jeopardize peace and security in Cameroon. At the end of his message, Dr. Chemuta Divine Banda "ardently invited people to collaborate with the competent authorities to stem this terrorist threat", which is "great concern" for the National Commission on freedoms and human rights.
