National Assembly: Foreign Affairs Committee holds session

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly has examined six bills proposed by the President of the Republic and defended by the competent cabinet ministers.

The Ministers of Justice, Culture, Territorial Administration, Finance and the Economy each took turns before the committee to defend the bills in their respective areas of competence.

During the session, the Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Laurent Esso defended two bills which focused on preventing and combating terrorism in African states. The bills focused on the protection of the fundamental rights of the population.

The bill on the the Charter for African Cultural Renaissance was defended by the Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna who noted that culture will enhance development in the country. The charter also seeks to promote freedom of expression and the role of cultural heritage in upholding peace and good governance.

According to the Culture Minister, such an initiative will help African nations work in synergy.

Territorial Administration and Decentralisation Minister, Emmanuel Rene Sadi, disclosed measures aimed at protecting and assisting displaced persons and refugees in the country.

The Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey on his part, explained the recent ordinance on the reduction on the special tax on petroleum products saying that it will help the country save over 100 billion CFAF.

Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, prioritised the Lake Chad Basin Water Charter, calling on the Cameroon government to ratify it.
