NGA refugees in CMR still in fear of Boko Haram

Even under refuge in Cameroon, the Nigerian refugees feel threatened by Boko Haram. The HCR is obliged to move them inside to guarantee their safety.

The HCR, an agency of the United Nations charged with the refugees announced that it was going to move away from the frontier town of Fotokol (extreme-north of Cameroon) 5,000 Nigerian refugees. Such a decision is explained by the recrudescence of the trans-border attacks of the Islamist rebels of Boko Haram. These refugees had fled the town of Gambaru Ngala border in Nigeria.

The HCR already moved some more than 8,600 refugees towards the camp of Minawo, these last two weeks with the intensification of attacks. The Cameroonian army pushed back several rebellious incursions, but safety remains precarious in this area.

"Since the beginning of the crisis with Nigeria, the local authorities in Cameroon announced the arrival of 43,720 Nigerian refugees, of which 26,720 of them were recorded by the HCR."

According to witnesses, the living conditions are difficult for the refugees. They are piled up in 57 and shelter classrooms in the area.

For their food, they profit from the hospitality of the people and the assistance of the authorities With 14 classrooms for 2,500 children. The education of the children has therefore become a real concern.
