The young lady won the 2016 edition of the Race of Hope, her 7th coronation.

She was being expected, and she responded. Yvonne Ngwaya won on February 27th, 2016, the 21th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. The native of the North-west region traveled the mountain (38 km) in 5h 32min 23s. She was faster than Gwaha Patience and Lisette Ngalim.

The young lady won her 7th victory in the race. Yvonne Ngwaya now equals the legendary record of Sarah Etongue hitherto the undisputed queen of the mountain. A worthy successor because since 2009 the young athlete lost the race only once, i.e. in 2014. She has won the event in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016. She received 10 million CFA, the bonus offered by Guinness Cameroon, the official sponsor of the race.

The race among men was won by an outsider, Simplice Ndungueh. The Northwest athlete covered the race in 4h 30 min 00s. He beat a few seconds the winner of 2015, Godlove Gabsibuin. Eric Bacha, the winner in 2014 for his part finished 3rd.

The 2016 edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope has once again revealed the supremacy of the Northwest athletes. The winners in all categories (juniors, veterans and seniors) as well in women than in men, are from that region.
