Minpostel explains recurrent network interruptions

The three mobile operators in Cameroon MTN, Orange and Nexttel are still battling with frequent network interruptions which has inconvenienced subscribers for several weeks now. The customers do not only expect the problem to be solved but anticipated an improvement in the quality of the service with the introduction of the 3G in March 2015.

These problems have been escalating to the extent that Jean Pierre Biyiti bi Essam, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (Minpostel), we learnt from credible sources, had to explain the cause of the problem on April 1, 2015, before the members of the Parliament, on a visit to the National Assembly. "These are technical problems," said Minister Biyiti bi Essam.

On the other hand, the Telecommunications Regulation Agency's (ART), "The problem that now arises with the quality of the service and the network disruption is explained by the current settings, moving from the second to the third generation networks", said Joseph Wendjel, technical director acting in ART.

"Solving the problem won't be long since implementations have already started", added the head of ART, highlighting problems observed in the Cameroonian mobile network for more than three weeks now.

At the end of these settings, "there will be fluidity of traffic because the 3G provides better bandwidth. Therefore, there will be a medium with many advantages, particularly in terms of fluidity, avoiding the problem of traffic congestion," Mr. Wendjel promised.

In the meantime, the daily mobile subscribers in Cameroon continues to suffer breaks of communications, the poor quality of the internet connection, the unexplained exhaustion of communication credits, etc.
