Ministry of Defence: Woman amidst five military officers installed

Colonel Nga Owona Philomène is the first woman in the military records of Cameroon to be installed as Commander of the 1st Command and Support Battalion.

The installation ceremony which took place at the Yaounde Military Brigade Headquarters, Monday 16th March 2015, was presided over by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o.

The following five military officials were installed in to their respective functions as follows:

-Colonel Bengono Antoine Mesmin Kizito as the Commander of the Combined Military Academy (EMIA).

-Colonel Owona Martin-Claude as the new boss of the Yaounde 101 Air Force Base.

-Colonel Nga Owona Philomène as the Commander of the 1st Command and Support Battalion in Yaounde.

-Lieutenant Colonel Nguiamba Laurent Hubert as the Commander of the Air Rifle Battalion and Chief of Battalion.

-Ekosso Lysonge Francis as the Commander of the 10th Group of the Fire Fighting Brigade.

The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o, the Defence Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka and the Commander of the National Fire Fighting Brigade corps, Brigadier General Mahamat Ahmed respectively, all conducted the authorising rites.

According to Minister Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o appointments of these five Military officials comes at a time when the peace of Cameroon is threatened both within and without, as such these newly installed armed forces are expected to patriotically show-case peace and security as they get hold of the mantle. By so doing they will merit the confidence from the hierarchy.

During this occasion, Mr Mebe Ngo’o particularly urged the Commander of EMIA, to ensure quality training, moral and professional honesty to cadet officers of the defence forces.

The ceremony also included the paying of tributes to fallen soldiers and civilians from the boko-haram qualm in the Far North and Minister Mebe Ngo’o commending the Nation’s efforts to support the defence forces in the Far North.
