Minister‘s 100 million bait divides South MPs

Parliamentarians from Cameroon’s South region, the birth place of President Paul Biya, are reported to be tearing themselves apart over 100 Million Francs received from Emmanuel Nganou Njoumessi, Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development.

The Journal learnt that sometime back in 2014, the 11MPs from the South region requested financial assistance from the Minister citing numerous projects in their various constituencies their micro projects grants could not solve.

The scandal according news reports leaked when three of the 11MPs were left out of the sharing. The sidelined MPs are quoted as saying since some MPs want to be more representative than others it is preferable they take the matter to the public tribunal so the public is aware.

Jean Jacques Zam, President of the South CPDM solidarity group is said to have in a confidential correspondence to the Minister on April 1, this year, appreciated him for his gesture, writing – ‘I write on my part and on behalf of my peers to express our profound gratitude and sincere thanks for your immense gesture.”

‘A good number of the projects have kicked off and we will in the nearest future submit to you the level of execution of these projects,’ concludes his correspondence.

When the Journal caught up with a CPDM MP from the Northwest and asked his opinion on the issue, he retorted ‘You should direct your concerns to the said Minister and the South MPs and not to me. Do you think if those of us CPDM MPs from the North West had requested for same he would have listen to us talk less of reacting positively?,’ quipped the MP who ,opted anonymity.

‘Do you know how many times we have as a team of North West CPDM MPs requested help from these Ministers but rarely do we get any response ?,’ he added.

He added that it is even more embarrassing that each of these MPs are taking away 12.5Million Francs which is far more than the micro projects grants provided for by the law.
