Minepded raises environmental awareness

A document containing a plan for raising awareness, education and information was given to the Minister Hele Pierre Wednesday in Yaounde.

The document on the national Programme of awareness and education on the environment (Peles) is dense, evidence that on the environment, there's a lot to say in Cameroon.

Indeed, over time, there was an observed rate of urbanization of 55% of the national population, resulting in an increase in the rate of consumption of households in general, Park real estate and automotive, and consequently, the production of environmentally harmful waste.

To cope, the Minister of the environment, nature Protection and sustainable developing (Minepded) has undertaken to raise environmental awareness within the Cameroonian population. And the design document of the Peles was officially handed to the Minister Hele Pierre at a national workshop held Wednesday at Hotel Mont Fébé in Yaoundé.

The Peles document contains sectoral and regional action plans by sectors of activity, including the actions of awareness, education, information and training. It also features rules of preservation of the environment. In his improvised remarks, Minister Hele Pierre expressed his appreciation to all Governments who have contributed to the realization of the said document.

He is also back on the reasons that motivated his design: "It is to develop individual and collective behaviour in the sense of preservation of the natural heritage and the improvement of the quality of life of populations", he said.

Given that the problem of the environment is transverse, he announced that inspired actions will be undertaken to meet the concerns of all socio-professional strata. He invited Governments to create in their midst, an environmental cell.
