Minawao camp registers 45 births monthly - UNHCR

An average of 45 monthly births is currently registered in the Nigerian refugee camp in Minawao in the Far – north region of Cameroon which receives people fleeing the exactions of the Islamist sect Boko Haram, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The observation was made a few days ago, on the occasion of the 2nd phase of the campaign for the establishment of birth certificates launched by the world body. Since December, 2014, 773 births were recorded in this camp which had 36,000 refugees two months ago.

About the final nationality of these Nigerian Cameroonian births certificates, UNHCR officials explained that in the same way as diplomas obtained by young refugees now enrolled in their host countries, these issues will be the subject of tripartite consultation.
