'Members of the SCNC will now be monitored closely'

Members of the Southern Cameroon National Council (SCNC), secessionist party that asserts the independence of the Anglophone part of Cameroon on October 1, will now be monitored closely.

This measure, which comes as part of the fight against the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, was taken by the Governor of the Southwest Region at the end of the security meeting he chaired on July 28, 2015 in Buea. According to Bernard Okalia Bilaï, "this decision was taken to avoid any terrorist infiltration within this group."

Still on the fight against the Islamist sect which causes damage in the northern part of the country, the Governor has also prescribed the systematic control of all users with a metal detector to secure markets in his region.

Users of these commercial spaces will undergo daily strict controls and are required to always their identification documents in their possession. In the field of transport, the former prefect of the Department of Wouri ordered the closure of the ports of Limbe, Tiko and Idenau by 6pm from now onwards.

Motorcycle drivers will no longer work after 9pm. This time has also been prescribed for the closing of bars operating in the region. Churches that organize night vigils will be systematically closed. The first citizen in the region also required the identification of all the children who roam the streets.

On asking them to cooperate with security forces to denounce any suspicious in their environment, Bernard Okalia Bilaï advised people in his territory to have with them their national identity cards, wherever they may be. He intends to use all the means in his possession to enforce all of these security measures. Security forces have also been charged to ensure that these measures are implemented.
