Members at work for Land Reform

National Assembly National Assembly

Network members for the management of forest ecosystems are meeting since June 3 to make a contribution.

As part of the implementation of government-parliament dialogue's recommendations on land reform in Cameroon, the Parliamentary Network for the Management of Forest Ecosystems of Central Africa (REPAR) section of Cameroon organized a validation workshop to document the contribution of parliamentarians from June 3 at the national Assembly in Ngoa-Ekelle.

The sitting chaired by the Vice President of the National Assembly, Théophile Baoro, marks an essential stage in a long process started in June 2013. Since then, debates for reform set on the major issues and challenges led to the establishment of a thematic group within the REPAR Cameroon. It is incumbent on this group to refine the thinking and ultimately develop a document reflecting the contribution of parliamentarians on land reform.

According to Honourable Jean-Jacques Zang, national coordinator of REPAR-Cameroon, the reform proposals drawn by their foundation is not only in the will of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, but Cameroon to provide the modern land legislation to materialize the vision of a second generation of agriculture as expressed in January 2011 during the Comice agropastoral in Ebolowa, but also to issues of land, an instrument for economic development, the realization of human rights and social peace.

Since June 3, discussions were towards validating the reform proposals made in the contribution document, to adopt the shape and structure of the document, define the format and structure of the document, to adopt the strategy and timetable for advocacy. Participants in these works also have a closer look at other reflections by organizations of civil society and various expert groups.
