A dozen hostages who escaped from Boko Haram returned to their families in Mayo- Moskota of the Far North region on June 17.

According to a local private newspaper, 2 women and 7 children escaped the clutches of the Boko Haram sect on June 17.

"The hostages took advantage of a heavy rain that fell at the village, which is under the control of Boko Haram, to escape.

"On their way, they met an army patrol posted at the village of Lawdaf," said L'oeil du Sahel, explaining what led to their escape.

The hostages were kidnapped about three months ago in the locality of Vreket Borough in Mayo- Moskota. After questioning by the police at Mozogo, the hostages were returned to their families.

They are luckier than the Cameroonian hostages held by Boko Haram estimated to be more than 300.
