Maritime security exercise starts in Cameroon

Twenty countries from three continents are taking part in an international military exercise in Douala codemaned “Obangame” to improve maritime security and safety in Africa, APA can report from the Cameroonian capital, Friday.

This year’s exercise dubbed “Obangame Saharian Express 2016? in which countries from Africa, Europe and the US are participating is being organized at a naval base in Douala with a particular emphasis on maritime security.

It takes place against the backdrop of resurgent terrorist attacks, blighing large parts of the continent.

“For one week, participants will exchange experience on the ground with a view to joining forces to effectively tackle insecurity and terrorism” said General Mohamadou Sali, the Commander of the second military region in Douala.

Before the end of the military exercise on March 25, troops will take part in a symposium which brings together the army chiefs of staff and navy commanders from the various participating countries.
