MINJEC Communes with Manoka Island for 20th May Celebration

After Kye-Ossi in the South, Ismaël Bidoung Kpwatt leads the unity wagon to the Littoral Region.

The Minister of Youth and Physical Education, Ismaël Bidoung Kpwatt will today officially launch activities to mark the 2014 edition of the National Day in Manoka island; situated in the Douala VI Subdivision, Wouri Division of the Littoral Region. This will mark the second phase after Kye-Ossi in the South Region.

Meanwhile the South West Region will take turn with earmarked festivities to hold in Meme Divisional Headquarters, Kumba in the days ahead. In view of ensuring a hitch-free event, members of the Littoral Regional Organising Committee for 20th May celebrations met yesterday Wednesday April 14 at the Governor’s Office. With well defined roles and responsibilities, they aimed at finalising procedures regarding the grandiose ceremony.

In Manoka, the day’s programme envisages the official launch by the Minister, who was received the day before on the banks of the Mongo Bridge. The choice of this lieu was inspired by its historic significance in the origin and evolution of Cameroon. A visit of the Youth and Animation Centre and an award of gifts to the constituted youth groups and associations will immortalise the working visit.

The second part of discussions centred on ensuring a smooth running of earmarked activities at the UDEAC Ceremonial Ground in Douala. The various commissions’ presidents and rapporteurs gave reports of the level of execution of their responsibilities.

The main bone of contention highlighted by the actors was finance, which timely disbursement was recommended for the realisation of set objectives. Prior to the final festivities, the week will be animated by volunteering, human investment, sports and socio-cultural exercises. Meanwhile three general rehearsals for both the military and civilian march past are scheduled before the d-day.

Come May 20, the 42nd edition of National Day will be celebrated with pomp in all crooks and crannies of the “Land of Promise” under the theme: “The Army and the Nation, Building a Synergy to Preserve Peace and Security, Pledge of Integration, Stability and Economic Development”.
