Information gathered indicates that the Cameroonian army were on the offensive from Sunday night, a little after 23h 30 (22 h 30 GMT), through to Monday after an attack was launched in the town of Afadé, Logone-et-Chari department of the Far North region.

"The attackers managed to burn a gendarmerie brigade and carried away four bikes. Several assailants died and the body count continues," our source said.

On the Cameroonian side, a soldier was injured.

People in villages of Dzama and Mogoda in Mayo-Moskota were trapped by the Islamist Boko Haram and were not able to flee during the attack, due to heavy rains which hit the region at the time.

The Boko Haram attackers who broke into the town of Madaka, killed a Maroua policeman.

It is speculated that the attacks of Boko Haram are experiencing a resurgence a few days before the upcoming meeting between Biya and Buhari. The two Heads of State will meet in Yaounde in the coming days.

Their meeting could be decisive in the fight against the Islamist sect when Cameroon negotiates a possible right of action in Nigerian territory.
