Logbaba plant to boost energy by 50 megawatts

Gas power plant producing electricity at Logbaba and Bassa has been installed by Eneo in Douala.

The Minister of Water and Energy, Basile Atangana Kouna, officially opened these machines that increase production by 50 mw of power for the benefit of Douala and its surroundings on Tuesday, April 28, 2015.

The minister expressed government's satisfaction to see this project realized as an "emergency" to reduce the crisis experienced by households and businesses on electrical networks.

Despite the progress in the electricity sector, Minister Atangana Kouna said Cameroon needs to have additional 75 to 100 mw in light of market stress since their trends are 5 to 7% annual average currently. But Eneo Cameroon has a production capacity of 968 mw and this gap has been measured and its real.

Therefore, the interruption of supply of electric current is often experienced by people, industries and shops in Douala, a major segment of the southern electricity distribution network.

The answer that the sector authorities have made to the failure to act which is itself, the result of the lack of investment during the period of economic crisis, was acknowledged.

It results from favorable government options to the public-private partnership. In this case, after three months of work, the main operator in the sector has managed to significantly increase the amount of energy it provides. Yet this is not enough as noted by the Director General of Eneo Cameroon Joel Nana Kontchou before immediately explaining that his company chose to work like the ants, to meet the current and future needs of Cameroon's growing economy.

Future plans which Mr. Nana Kontchou stated shortly before the minister mentioned innovative sectors such as wind, solar, biomass ... as a measure for a better tomorrow.
