"Local materials more economical for construction works"

For Prof. Uphie Chinje Melo, Director of the Mission for the promotion of local materials (Mipromalo), the advantage of using local building materials lies in the fact "that it is first the riches of our basement. It saves on the cost, the unemployed youth may constitute the workforce and produce these materials and generate income."

However, the low use of these materials, as noted in the circular of the Prime Minister, "has consequences, inter alia, a chronic deficit in our balance of trade compared with building materials, with its corollary that is to maintain the dependence of our country to the outside."

This low use is attributable, according to Prof. Uphie Melo Chinje,to the lack of information and prejudice. "The local material is less expensive. For the construction of two classrooms, for example, it amounts to 12 million and a half and not 16 million as the State is investing."

In addition, according to the Director of the Mipromalo, standards exist for each material and are met.
