The regional delegate of urban development in the Littoral, Aboubakar Ngalam, has been pronounced dead after an accident on the Douala – Bafoussam road.

His wife was also found dead at the scene of the traffic accident in the town of Mbanga, Department of the Mungo on Thursday night, July 2.

"The couple and their small daughter were in a pick-up car heading for the West. Their vehicle collided head-on into a truck coming from the opposite direction at a sharp curve. The couple died instantly and their daughter is in a critical condition at the Mbanga hospital,” said a police officer in charge of investigating the accident, via the phone, to Cameroon - info.NET.

The police officer also noted that the bodies of the victims were deposited in the mortuary of the Mbanga Hospital.

Aboubakar Ngalam lost his life at the time where he was preparing, in partnership with the Douala Urban Community, to begin the operation of destroying houses built on drains and flood prone areas in Douala. The poor demarcation in the town was the cause of the June flood.

This fatal accident once again confirms the sad status of this important road which connects Douala, the economic capital and main town of the region of Littoral, to Bafoussam, capital of the Western region. The national number 5 highway is known to be one of the most dangerous roads in the country.

According to organizations in charge of road safety, an average of 15 people are killed daily on this road and a good number of these fatal accidents are due to the poor condition of the road.
