Limbe fish processors trained on post-harvest equipment

The training organised last month took place at the Chamber of commerce as part of the activities of the project to create an integrated coastal zones management plan for Limbe, sponsored by the New Partnership for Africa, NEPAD and the Limbe City Council.

The fish processors were drilled on values to integrate coastal management strategy plan and the organisation of fish mongers.

Speaking during the event, the Regional Delegate of Environment and Nature protection, underscored the necessity to protect the environment while carrying out daily activities for sustainability by the fishmongers.

He further challenged fishmongers to protect the environment especially the aquatic environment which is a major source of livelihood to the coastal villages in the Limbe municipality.

The Manager of African Resource Group Cameroon, Edmund Njoh noted that the training is intended to benefit participants who will later transmit the information to other localities in the region.

Kasmir Lyonga, Technical Director of the Limbe City Council, explained that the council is working on a sustainable development policy, based on promotion of social settlement policy meant to reinforce the settlement of urbanised areas to improve fish farming.

The Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Motanga Andrew Monjimba, thanked NEPAD for their contribution to the implementation of the Integrated Marine and Coastal Management Plan for the Limbe City Council.

Few fishermen on their part expressed satisfaction with the organisers and pledged to follow best practices in carrying out their fishing activities, a trend they all believed will encourage local fish consumption.
