Ligue 1: Stopping terrorism

Ligue 1 players campaign against terrorism Ligue 1 players campaign against terrorism

The world of Cameroon football is not immune to the recent attacks in the Far North. When the psychosis caused by this tragedy seized the country, footballers have appealed to the Federation forces to defeat these evil threats.

Thus, the Professional Football League of Cameroon (LFPC), the organizing body of the League 1 and 2Championships, in collaboration with the National Union of Footballers of Cameroon (Synafoc) began a campaign to condemn and express its resentment towards these terrorist acts on Sunday on the 26th day of Ligue 1.

"No to terrorism. Football is a vector of peace and social cohesion. Together, united, we will win,” these were the messages by the two entities on a red card and distributed to players of each team at the beginning of the match.

The players willingly collaborated in the initiative before the match began between Canon Yaoundé and Dragon Club (0-1) at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisports in Yaoundé.

They each wore a black band around the right arm and observed a minute of silence for the souls who lost their lives in these attacks. The same approach was observed in almost all stages of Ligue 1 on the 26th day.

The campaign against terrorism, however, did not extend to the northern part. In Garoua, Coton Sport hosted Wounded Lion of Foutouni but the same courtesies were not displayed.

But “it should be done in the coming days. Garoua received a special football campaign against these terrorists, with a special mobilization of renowned and former players including Roger Milla, Njitap, Mettomo, to demonstrate that we say NO to terrorism," explained Jacques Marcel Itiga Itiga, communication director of Synafoc.
