Le Messager reaffirms zeal for press freedom

Frédéric Boungou, current Director of the newspaper Publication "Le Messager” and all his administrative and editorial team faced the press Friday 26th September 2014 in Douala prior to the launch of the 35th anniversary of the newspaper, which will be commemorated from 10th to November 14th of 2014.

A celebration focused on the theme: "Le Messager, 35 years to listen to the people".

The Director of the publication, the moderator of the Friday meeting (J.F.Channon), the Manager of the newspaper in the person of Rodrigue Tanendjio explained: "the event will allow us to update the oldest private newspaper in Cameroon which has many readers both inside and outside the national triangle.

We will during the celebration reflect on the fate of Le Messager which is now at the crossroads ". In partnership with the advertising CETC Sarl, Le Messager also wants to rebuild the brand of the newspaper to advertisers as an essential support of its media strategy; while consolidating its position as a showcase of the Cameroonian private print media whose dynamism is given to see through its longevity.

Nevertheless, the journal of Pius Njawé, of late memory, has managed to pull a few titles by promoting the emergence of a free press. But its positions against the established power sockets are not appreciated. Its journalists are often arrested and thrown into prison.

From weekly to tri-weekly publication, Le Messager is one of the oldest private Cameroon newspapers. Its readers are recruited in the civil society, in the political arena, in academia, among executives of public and private companies.

Finally, according to the Director of Publication, "The 35th anniversary is also a way to pay tribute to the memory of its founder, the late Pius Njawé who died about 4 years ago."
