About 5 tons of expired drugs mostly sold in "pharmacy posts" along the road and by street vendors have been seized and destroyed by the authorities in Melong in the Littoral Region, reliable sources told APA on Tuesday.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of the National Order of Pharmacists of Cameroon (ONPC) with the support of law enforcement.
Sources close to the case said these adulterated and expired drugs were mostly sold in the city of Douala and its surroundings, through a distribution network and well-oiled marketing.
“We have interest in strengthening control and even repression against sellers of fake drugs especially since this is an area that cannot be entrusted to unskilled hands," insisted the National Order of Physicians.
The $ 20 million FCfa worth of drugs, notably from Nigeria and are manufactured in South Africa, India and Nigeria.
