Journalists of the weekly newspaper Repères on strike

Newspapers Newspapers

For the past two weeks, there were just a few people at the offices of the newspaper Repères in Yaoundé. The majority of the workforce stopped working since 1 June 2015.

The principal persons in charge of editorial, Parfait Siki, the editor in Chief, Dominique Mbassi, Director or even the editorial Secretary, Sylvain Andzongo, have not been seen for a long time at the headquarters of the newspaper founded by Richard Touna Ombe, located in "Camair" (Yaoundé).

Almost all the workers are on strike. They took the action because they did not get what they wanted from the Director of publication Régine Touna, the widow of Richard Touna, among other things, payment of wages due for 5 months, the establishment of social security coverage for employees, social security coverage for many journalists, the reinstatement of the meetings between management and personnel employed and also reporting expenses.

The striking parties resolved not to return to work until all their demands are met. Trainee journalists and other unidentified people were involved in the issuing of three editions of the newspaper.

Repères was established in 2007 and gained massive appreciation by the public.
